This program will expose faculty and staff members to topics related to students in distress and specifically how to best refer students to the Student Support and Advocacy Center (SSAC). Our Center has worked with a high volume of students since its inception back in 2016. The pandemic along with all of the associated challenges it has brought forth has impacted the students being referred to SSAC in so many different ways. This presentation will cover an overview of the Student Support and Advocacy Center, the various support services we offer to students, and a detailed explanation of all the steps and key information you should know if and when you need to refer a student to our Center. After a detailed explanation of the referral process, we will expand into interactive small group case study breakout activities. The experiential learning activity will help individuals gain knowledge regarding how to respond to and assist students in distress and make the appropriate referrals. There will be time allotted for large group processing and questions. Attendees will leave this session with all the essential knowledge to make successful referrals for students in distress moving forward in an effort to promote student retention, degree completion, and well-being.
